Yngwie Malmsteen is an example of a great technical guitarist who uses three notes per string scales throughout his lead guitar work ...... so you better learn them too!
Learning the major scale box shapes can be long winded and fairly un-musical process - consequently anything that can change this reality is most welcome to the practising guitarist.
Below the 5A3 major scale box shapes are presented with their corresponding major sixth chords (Formula - 1, 3, 5, 6)
These scales and chords are then used together to play the major sixth 12 bar blues sequence.
Using this method the scales that are used follow the chords i.e. the IONIAN MODE is played over each chord.
All this really means that:-
- The C major scale (C ionian) is played over the C6 chord.
- The F major scale (F ionian) is played over the F6 chord.
- The G major scale (G ionian) is played over the G6 chord.
Learn the 5A3 shape major sixth chords and major scale box shapes (three notes per string) separately
using the CAGED octaves methodology:-
Then join it all together using the major sixth 12 bar blues sequence as glue:-
